If you’re planning a trip to Vietnam and wondering about the weather each month, it largely depends on your destination and the activities you want to enjoy. With its diverse climate, Vietnam doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all answer. However, I'll provide you with a general overview of what to expect weather-wise each month, based on average weather patterns. You might also want to check out the holidays and events that occur each month in Vietnam.

January
This month is ideal for enjoying dry and pleasant weather in most parts of Vietnam, except the north, which can be quite cold, especially in the mornings and evenings. Warm clothing and jackets might be necessary if you visit places like Sapa and Ha Giang. For beach time, head to Phu Quoc where it’s sunny. Keep in mind that Halong Bay may be foggy this month, so the views might not be the best.

February
Weather warms up across most of Vietnam, though the north can still be chilly. This is peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices. However, it's a great time to experience the Tet Festival, which celebrates the Vietnamese New Year with lots of food, fireworks, and festivities. Many shops, museums, and restaurants will be closed for about a week during Tet.

March
March is one of the best months to visit Vietnam, with fantastic weather everywhere. You have more options for beach destinations, such as Mui Ne, Con Dao, and Nha Trang. Hoi An is also a charming place to enjoy both the beach and the old town. This is also a great time to visit Halong Bay, which should have clear blue skies and no fog.

April
Similar to March, April is another excellent month to visit Vietnam, with wonderful weather across the country. This is also a peak tourism season, so be prepared for more crowds and higher prices.

May
The weather heats up in May, but it’s still a good time to visit Vietnam before the rainy season begins. You might encounter some rain in the north and south by the end of the month, but it’s usually not severe. You can also benefit from lower prices after the peak season.

June
There might be some rain in the north and south of Vietnam, but it’s typically not too severe. You can still enjoy sunny days in Hanoi, Mai Chau, and Halong Bay. The best place to be is central Vietnam, where the weather remains dry and sunny. Relax on the beaches of Lang Co and Hoi An, or explore the countryside and local culture. This is also a good time to travel before the school holidays start next month.

July
Central Vietnam remains the best place to visit in July, with plenty of sunshine and minimal rain. The rest of Vietnam might experience some showers, but they won’t ruin your plans.

August
Central Vietnam continues to be a good destination in August, although you might encounter more rain towards the end of the month. The rest of Vietnam may also see some rain, but it generally won’t be too disruptive. This is also a good time to find discounts on flights and hotels during the low season.

September
September is a good month to catch the last of the sun on the central coast of Vietnam before the rainy season intensifies. The north and south are usually very wet this month, but you can still find deals on hotels.

October
The weather improves in northern Vietnam in October, making it a great time to visit places like Sapa or Ha Giang. You can admire the beautiful scenery of rice terraces, valleys, and changing mountain colors. It’s also a good time for hiking, biking, or staying with local residents. While not ideal for beach lovers, Vietnam offers much more than just beaches. Traveling in October also helps you avoid the crowds.

November
The high tourism season resumes in November as many people come to Vietnam for the cooler winter months in the north. By the end of the month, most of Vietnam will be hot and dry again, except for central Vietnam, which might still experience some rain.

December
December might still bring some rain to central Vietnam, but most of the country will be hot and dry again. The beach season kicks off on Phu Quoc Island. It’s advisable to book early for Christmas, as it can get very busy.
