Notre Dame Cathedral
The Notre Dame Cathedral built between 1877 and 1883, is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. The red bricks were imported from France. It’s a peaceful place in the middle of the busy city.
Old Post Office
Nearby the Notre Dame Cathedral stands the bright yellow Old Post Office, another example of French colonial architecture designed by Alfred Foulhoux. Build between 1886 and 1891, this building is one of the oldest in Saigon and also the largest post office of Vietnam. You can enter the building to admire the architecture without having anything to mail.
Reunification Palace
The Reunification Palace is one of the most important buildings in the city. Here on April 30th 1975 the ‘American War’ officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam. The place is still hosting important occasions in Ho Chi Minh City.
War Remnants Museum
The War Remnants Museum (Formerly knowed as the Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes) is a poignant display about the brutality of war. Outside the museum you can see US armoured vehicles, artillery pieces, bombs and infantry weapons. And inside, some information about the prisons on Phu Quoc and Con Son Islands, but mostly documents and photos about the atrocity of the war. Also, on display, some experimental weapons secretly used by the army at that time.
